What's New
Local 831 Tradeshow Apprenticeship Program
Local 831 has started an Aprenticeship Program, for all new members. The program is a five year program, the first four being structured and the fifth an elective program. It will have 8 levels of tradeshow installers (TS1-8), they are curently being called Exhibit Builders 1-8. The name will change in the future to the previous one listed, due to an Exhibit Builder program being currently constructed. That being said, the new recruits will be selected on a limited basis every semister (January & June). Once selected, they will have classes to goto twice a month throughout the duration of their aprenticeship. Guess what boys & girls, this program is backed by the State. Now for all of you decorators who are so called "grandfathered" in by being members prior to January 1st, 2008. You get to take your classes the way you have been in order to get your scale increases, and nothing has changed for you. I believe this is only going to strengthen our union and work force.
Local 831 New Membership to be allowed twice a year.
Effective January 1st, 2008 - Local 831 closed new memberships. It is now only going to accept new applications twice a year, January and June. This is designed to allow for the replacement of local 831 brothers and sisters whom have retired. For instance, there were approximately 43 retirees last year. The first class of new recruits contained around 37 members. So all you current decorators worried that you are going to be displaced, don't.
